(Description):
This is our second arrival of this poster. The one we found previously sold out quickly, and during our recent buying trip, we were fortunate to come across it again and successfully acquired it at auction.
This poster is part of the Proost Prikkels graphic series, published in 1975 by the Dutch printing company Proost & Brandt.
Proost Prikkels was a poster series distributed to professionals in the printing and design industries. As its title — meaning “stimulus” or “inspiration” — suggests, it was created to spark visual and conceptual creativity.
In this piece, a hand delicately picking a single needle from a bed of pins symbolizes themes such as “the pain of creation,” “the chosen idea,” and “creative stimulation.”
Set against the backdrop of the Cold War era in 1975, the work can also be interpreted as reflecting dual themes of “risk and choice,” “control and sensitivity,” and “human strength and fragility.”
This series is part of the permanent collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, making it a true museum piece.
