(Description):
This poster was created for the screening of The Second Circle (1989), a film by the Russian director Aleksandr Sokurov, who began his career under the Soviet regime and remains active today.
During the Soviet era, Sokurov’s work often contained subversive elements critical of the regime, leading to frequent domestic bans and censorship.
As a result, this film was distributed through underground channels, screening primarily at independent cinemas across Western Europe.Produced in 1989 during the final years of the Soviet Union, The Second Circle is a deeply philosophical and experimental work that stands far apart from mainstream entertainment.
This particular poster is from its screening at Filmtheater De Smet in Amsterdam—the same venue known for showcasing the gay cinema mentioned earlier.
