Gustav Metzger was a radical anti-capitalist who resisted the gallery system and rejected the art market. In 1959, he introduced the concept of “Auto-Destructive Art,” criticizing the commodification of art and advocating public projects that embraced destruction, decay, and disorder as a means of postwar catharsis.
